|“||Help me, and I will give you vengeance, Ferro. Real vengeance. Not one dead soldier, or ten, but thousands. Tens of thousands!1||”|
Chapter Summary Edit
Ferro is ushered in to meet Bayaz and his companions. She is wary of both Logen and Bayaz; Logen seems all together dangerous, but Bayaz, who looks at her like a slaver would, seems even worse. Bayaz wonders whether Ferro is what he’s looking for, and to test her, he presents two stones. He asks her to choose the blue, and she picks the one on the left. However, Bayaz smiles and reveals them both to bed red, proving that Ferro cannot see colours. Having been tricked, Ferro promptly breaks Bayaz’ nose. However, Bayaz just finds it rather funny.
Bayaz and Yulwei excuse themselves to discuss matters privately, which Ferro manages to overhear. Yulwei explains the state of the Gurkish war effort, and admonishes Bayaz for his reckless plan. However, with two hundred Eaters in the Gurkish horde, Bayaz sees little choice but to use The Seed. Logen and Ferro are part of his plan; the former can speak to Spirits, and the later can carry The Seed by some accident of birth. The conversation ends with Bayaz assuring Yulwei that he with do right by Ferro.2
Returning to the room, Bayaz asks Ferro to accompany him on his journey, eventually convincing her that it’s her best chance for revenge against the Gurkish. Yulwei will not be accompanying them, but will return to Gurkhul to continue his spying. As he leaves, he awkwardly hugs Ferro good-bye.
