|“||With each street Jezal passed down he relaxed a little more. He slowly began to feel as if he must indeed have achieved something worthy of the honour. To wonder if he might, in fact, have been a dauntless commander, a masterful negotiator. If the people of the city wished to support him as their help, he began to suppose it would be churlish to refuse.||”|
Chapter Summary Edit
Colonel Luthar rides into Adua, dressed to the nines, at the head of his command. Beside him rides Bayaz, intent on continuing his lectures on the nature of how to rule. However, Jezal just thinks of Ardee, sure she’s witty and beautiful, but it might impact his reputation. Love may not be enough in the world they live in.
As they near the city centre, huge crowds of people clog the streets, celebrating his return, throwing flowers and chanting his name. Jezal is at a loss for it all, he did nothing, but Bayaz shrugs and suggests the crowd disagrees. As they ride, Jezal quickly becomes more comfortable with the accolades.1
Inside the Agriont, he approaches the King Guslav and the Closed Council. The King is slumped in his chair as usual. Chamberlain Hoff nudges the King, and he promptly falls from his throne, dead as a doornail. The cheers for Jezal’s victory have stopped.
