Superior Goyle is the head of the Inquisition in Angland, until he is promoted to Superior of Adua.
Appearance and Personality
Goyle is a gaunt balding man, with a long black coat, and a prim little smile.
Inquisitor Glokta considers him a spiteful torturer, with no brains, uninterested in the truth. Arch Lector Sult considers him capable, trustworthy, and one of us.
History
Superior Goyle is the head of the Inquisition in Angland where they have several penal colonies involved in iron mining and logging. The prisoners in Angland endure brutal treatment. Sand dan Glokta was an Inquisitor under Goyle for three years, though they hated one another.
The Blade Itself
When Superior Kalyne is removed from office, Goyle is brought from Angland to assume the role of Superior of Adua. On arriving, Goyle take over the disbandment of the Guild of Mercers.
Goyle and Glokta first meet in the University, while Glokta is investigating a slaughtered body found in the Agriont. Goyle flippantly dismisses the murder as the work of dogs.
Goyle is ordered to discreetly arrest Ferro Maljinn to find out more about the magi Bayaz. Despite sending twenty Practicals, it’s an utter failure, with seven left dead and eight injured; Arch Lector Sult is less than impressed.
Before They Are Hanged
On returning from Dagoska, Glokta is named co-Superior of Adua with Superior Goyle.
Last Argument of Kings
With the death of High King Guslav, Arch Lector Sult charges both Superiors Goyle and Glokta to influence the upcoming election for the next King of the Union. By influence of course this means bribe, threaten, whatever.
Goyle and Sult are up to something at the University. With Adua under siege from the Gurkish in the Battle of Adua, Glokta heads to the Agriont to find out what. In the House of Questions, he can’t find Sult, only Goyle. He tortures Goyle, who confesses that Arch Lector Sult and Adeptus Silber are trying to contact demons on The Other Side at the University.
Goyle is dragged by Glokta to the University, which they find defended by Goyle’s Practicals, but Glokta tricks them into giving up without a fight. In the final confrontation with Sult, Goyle is killed with a flatbow bolt.
