Lord Isher is one of the most powerful nobleman in the Union, with estates in Midderland.

AppearanceEdit

Isher is described as a tall[1], stately and sedate old man[2]. He wears heavy robes with a chain around his shoulders[1].

HistoryEdit

The Blade ItselfEdit

Along with Lords Brock, Barezin and Heugen, Isher is heavily invested in the Guild of Mercers, and is outraged in Open Council when the Arch Lector Sult exposes the treasonous activities of the Guild. However, the evidence of the traitors, including Hornlach's confession that Magister Kault himself ordered the assassination of nine men to cover up their crimes, seems conclusive. After hearing the evidence, Lord Isher grew silent, and seemed to loose all interest in the Guild[2].

Last Argument of KingsEdit

With both heirs to the throne deceased, Lord Isher became one of the leading candidates in the elections for the new High King, just behind Brock.[3]

Before the election, he is summoned to a meeting by Bayaz to discuss the ensuing vote.[1] In Open Council, Bayaz interupts the polling to reveal the existence of an illegitimate son of King Guslav, none other than Colonel Jezal dan Luthar. Isher is the first Lord throw his full support behind the young pretender. Apparently, Bayaz promised him that his two brothers would be made Lords Chamberlain and Chancellor on the Closed Council. However, Bayaz urges King Jezal to cast Isher aside, lest he become too powerful and a threat to the new regime.

At the end of the Battle of Adua, he is outraged when the Open Council is suspended until the Lords’ Round is repaired. It seems that Bayaz eventually convinced him to toe the like, since he congratulated Lord Bayaz' victory in the end, although he had a look on his face as if he was clapping at his own burial.

Best Served Cold Edit

It is revealed that Lord Isher has been murdered, poisoned by Castor Morveer; perhaps on behalf of Bayaz or Arch Lector Glokta.
