Glokta: Of course not, but I can take yours.
Chapter Summary Edit
Tying up the loose ends on his old life, Glokta has Carlot dan Eider arrested and brought to him. As Eider begs for mercy, the Arch Lector proposes a way for her to redeem herself; she must go to Talins and spy on Grand Duke Orso for The Union. To make matters worse, her assets have been seized, and she will be forced to accept a loan from Valint & Balk.1
After a brief catchup with Cosca to say let’s work together again one day, Arch Lector Glokta has a meeting with his old friend Collem West. The Lord Marshal’s wretched state shocks even Glokta. The reunion is cut short, as West slumps in his chair, and is rushed to the royal surgeon.2 However, one man remains behind; Pike. The scarred man springs at Glokta, and holds a knife at his throat. As recognition slowly washes through Glokta that this is Salem Rews, he begins to snigger. Face with Glokta's laughter, Rews hesitates. Glokta gently coaxes him to release him, promising a far more suitable vengeance. Glokta leads him from his office, down into the prison cells below the House of Questions. Inside a grubby white box they find Arch Lector Sult. Sult curses Glokta and demands a trial in Open Council, but his appeals are ignored. As Practical Pike show the prisoner the instruments, Glokta gets down to work.3

- We'll see how Carlot dan Eider gets on in her new job in Best Served Cold. I wouldn't get your hopes up.
- Hmmm, I wouldn't invest too much in hoping Collem West miraculously gets better either.
- Our favourite crippled torturer has gained quite a bit over the series. He's become all-powerful, and got the girl. Is Bayaz may be one master Glokta cannot outwit? Personally, I like to think Glokta has been playing the first amongst slaves to Bayaz all these years, while manipulating, scheming, threatening and torturing his way out from under the old liars yoke.
