Chapter Summary Edit
Inquisitor Glokta is meeting with the Arch Lector. Sult exults in his victory over the Mercers, while chiding Glokta for accusing Superior Kalyne of spying. However, Kalyne has been removed anyway, and Superior Goyle from Angland will replace him as Superior of Adua. Glokta is less than impressed, remembering Goyle as a brutish dullard. Sult, however, only sees his loyalty.
The two discuss Magister Kault’s accusations against Valint & Balk. Glokta wants to investigate the bank, but Sult rejects the idea, claiming them too well-connected. Sult assigns Glokta a new task, to investigate Bayaz who is demanding his seat on the Closed Council, and prove he is a fraud at best, a spy for the Gurkish or pawn of Sult’s rival Marovia at worst.
