Chapter Summary Edit
Lord Marshal West and the Union Army have returned from The North and are encamped on the far outskirts of Adua. West holds a council of war with Generals Poulder and Kroy. Agreeing for once, both are quivering with rage at the Gurkish invasion. A Knights Herald Fedor dan Hayden is ushered into the tent. He explains the dire state inside the city: all the western districts are in the hands of the Emperor; Arnault’s Wall has been breached and the defences are close to breaking point; however, the Gurkish are stretch thin to the east of the city.
Marshall West outlines his battle plan. General Kroy’s division with the Northmen will attack from the northeast and push west towards the Agriont. Simultaneously, General Poulder’s men will approach from the southeast, first clear the docks and then push north to the Agriont. Meanwhile, The Union fleet will attack the Gurkish ships in the harbour. To West’s surprise, all agree.1
Back in the Northmen camp, Dogman finds Logen and shares the plan with him. Logen is more wary of Caul Shivers than he is of the Gurkish, but Dogman tries to reassure him. Logen goes on to assure him that this is the very end of the wars, from now on they’ll make things grow. In morose mood, Dogman systematically shatters Logen’s hopes to be someone better. You have to be realistic, after all.

- Poulder and Kroy leaving the command tent is super cute. They once tent and bumped one another trying to be the first through, like children, but now the former adversaries seem to realise they might actually love one another as much as they hate the other.
