Chapter Summary Edit
Coming back to himself, Ferro give Logen no time to rest. She’s found an underground river, and leads him down the channel. He asks her what he did back there, but she just tells him he did what needed to be done; he got them through. Eventually they emerge through an iron gate outside the city. Logen wants to stop, but Ferro pushes them on. Only when night entire falls does Ferro stop them in a ruin. Logen offers Ferro his coat cause she’s clearly frozen with cold from the river. She’s reluctant to accept his help, but takes it with thanks. Her next words catch him off guard, when she blurts out an offer of sex.
Surprised by her offer, Logen sputters. But, before Ferro can rescind it, he recovers and suggests they get a little closer. Over the next few minutes they find uses for their hands, mouths, and other bits. However, Logen finishes prematurely, leaving Ferro a tad frustrated. Logen soon recovers though and makes an offer of his own for another round.
In the morning Ferro wakes up, not knowing where she is, trapped under Logen’s arm. She responds by cracking the Northman in the mouth with an elbow. Hurt, Logen reacts harshly, and the tenderness of the previous night is replaced by bitterness.1
Meanwhile, camped at the Saturline Rock, Jezal waits with Bayaz, Quai, and Longfoot. He finds it unlikely that Ferro and Logen survived, an opinion shared by everyone but Bayaz; for without them his plans are ruined. Suddenly, Quai spots the duo in the distance, very much alive. Reunited, Bayaz puts them back on task. With a couple of their horses dead after the Shanka attack, Logen must ride on the cart beside Bayaz. Rather than ride with Logen, Ferro elects to walk. Not all is rosy in with our band of heroes.

- There an absurdist honesty to Abercrombie's sex scene. Logen makes jokes that aren’t funny. They can’t get each other’s clothes off.
