Westport is the second of seven parts of Best Served Cold.

Chapter Summary

The years after their father’s death were hard for Monza and Benna. The first year, they were reduced to begging. The second was slightly better and they got a decent crop. And the third seemed destined to be a bumper harvest, until a raid by bandits from neighbouring Musselia destroyed all the crops in the valley.

The local farmers gathered a posse to extract revenge, and Monza insisted on joining them. They tracked the bandits, and slaughtered them without mercy, Monza killing two of them herself. In the aftermath, Benna searched the bodies, and found money, twice as much as the whole harvest had been worth. Staring at her father’s sword, Monza pondered how much easier it would be to kill, than farm.
