|“||The moment when I see you again will be your last. Back to your birds, shadow.||”|
Chapter Summary Edit
Ferro now spends her days sitting on a warehouse roof, watching the docks, and waiting for Yulwei to return.1 He is her only way to get back to Kanta and the revenge she carves. She smiles imagining what Logen would think of Jezal as King, then promptly cuts short thoughts of the Northman. As the sun begins to set, Ferro resigns herself to the fact that Yulwei will not come today.
She leaves her perch and heads "home". As she walks she feels a shadow; she’s being followed by a Practical. She leads him around for a while, then lays a trap. The man walks right into it and Ferro quickly has him beaten, a knife to his throat; Practical Severard.2 She forces him to admit that he works for Glokta. Despite her anger, she asks him why she should let him live. The man claims to have birds to care for.3 For reasons Ferro barely understands, she thinks this enough to let the man go free.

Locations and Terms Edit
- Ferro gets a bit short shrift in the first half of this book, and doesn’t have much to do. But her time will come in the second half.
- Although the Practical is not named, it is obviously Severard. He was ordered by Glokta to follow Ferro in Prepared For The Worst.
- The idea of Severard keeping bird is only very subtly hinted at in A Road Between Two Dentists. The dilapidated mansion that Severard bought, where he used to squat in his youth, has lots of comments about how many bird live in the rooftop.
