Chapter Summary Edit
Deployed for battle in a valley, Prince Ladisla’s army watches a ragtag bunch of Northmen form up on a low hill. Urged on by his flunkeys, the Prince feels confident in sending his cavalry into battle to drive them off the hill. West is horrified, recognizing the potential for a trap, but Ladisla will hear none of it.
The Union cavalry charge up the hill and disappears over the top, pursuing the retreating rabble. After a painful wait, a heavy mist slowly begins to rise around The Union forces. And then emerging from it is Bethod’s true army.2 West tries to order the retreat, but chaos ensues as the mist thickens and the Northmen unleash hell.
Unable to see what’s happening, West is shocked when the Northmen reach him and attack the Prince’s headquarters. Before he knows it, he’s knocked to the ground, with a Northman standing over him ready to end his life. Suddenly the man collapses, Cathil having save him, killing the Northman with her smithing-hammer. Along with Pike, they find the Prince and escape into the trees, only to be found by The Dogman who’s been sent to observe by Threetrees.
