Chapter Summary Edit
Bremer dan Gorst rides beside General Jalenhorm as the division laboriously take up position around the valley of Osrung. Jalenhorm is honest and well-meaning, but fantastically young to command a division, having been promote far above his ability by virtue of his friendship with King Jezal. Aware of his shortcomings and insecure, he tries to micro-manage his men to such an extent that it causes confusion and is prone to poorly considered orders.
The pair reach The Heroes, where they find Hardbread burying their dead from the failed attack the day before. When one of the scouts mentions a fourth crossing across the river, Jalenhorm sends Gorst back down the hill, to order an entire cavalry battalion to tramp through the bog to protect the position.
