“ | Jezal: What ever is he up to, anyway? Ferro: Saving the world, he tells me. Jezal: Ah. That. He’s left it a little late, don’t you think? Ferro: I’m not in charge of the timing. |

Tomorrow's Hero is the forty-first chapter in Last Argument of Kings.
Chapter Summary[]
King Jezal rides through the remnants of the bombarded inner city of Adua, pushed down by the weight of his decisions. Varuz describes the sad state of the city’s defences. Almost all contact with the outside world is cut off, so they have no idea when Lord Marshal West and the Union Army will return. On top of that, a mysterious plague is running rampant throughout the Agriont, with no known cause or cure.1
As they ride, Jezal notices a bombed out shell of a building that was once the opulent Mercers’ Guildhall. Nearby a group of the destitute huddle, including a woman he mistakes for Ardee. To cover his mistake he offers her the cloak off his back. The crowd lauds him for his gesture, which just make him feel even more of a fraud. In a pique, he demands they get closer to the fighting, which Varuz reluctantly agrees to.
As they approach Arnault’s Wall, a mighty blast tears a breach in the wall, and the Gurkish pour into the inner city. Seeing no one else to repel them, Jezal orders the royal guard to charge. During the skirmish, the King is knocked from his horse, but Gorst wades into the enemy to rescue him, cutting through the Gurkish like he is threshing wheat. Eventually, the Gurkish are forced to retreat for now.
Back in the Agriont, Bayaz and Ferro are building …. something; a metal pattern over the Square of Marshals. While Varuz congratulates the King for his brave charge, Bayaz scolds him; anyone can be ordered to charge, not anyone can be King. Dispirited, the King slumps down beside Ferro, surprisingly pleased to see her. He asks what Bayaz is building, and she shrugs, something to save the world.

- The plague started with two Knights of the Body, presumably the two that briefly tried to stop Ferro entering the Agriont when she was rushing to put The Seed in the box. It's interesting how the effects seem similar to radiation sickness.
