|“||Sometimes I find my own name’s a heavy weight to carry. Dread to think how a name like yours must drag at a man.||”|
Chapter Summary Edit
Logen sits on a rock on the right flank of The Dogman and Crummock’s column of men, watching for ambushes, as they march to the High Places. It’s fine by Logen, he has too many enemies even on his own side.
A man breaks away from the others and walks toward Logen. Logen immediately reacts with distrust, but the man introduces himself as Red Hat who used to fight for Old Man Yawl against Bethod. He reckons Dogman is a good chief and is glad Logen is on their side. Logan is surprised by the good will, accepting it while never letting go of a knife behind his back. Trust doesn’t come easy to the Bloody-Nine.
Tul Duru appears out of the woods, and notices Logen’s tension around Red Hat. He asks if Logen wishes he’d never come back to The North at all. Their Names are a heavy weight, and Logen’s heaviest of all. Tul assures him the men will be glad to have him when the fighting starts. As Logan watches Tul go, Shivers walks past, staring daggers at him; maybe not everyone will be glad.
