Chapter Summary Edit
The next morning, Monza regrets her decision to sleep with Shivers, and tries to fob-off the bewildered Northman with some extra coins for last night additional duties. Down in the courtyard, Monza practices her swordwork now with her left hand, slowly getting better and stronger. As Morveer enters, she insists on seeing that the deed is done.
Monza and Shivers enter the busy banking hall of Valint & Balk, where business carries on as usual, and Mauthis stands very much alive. However, as she approaches, Mauthis convulses and collapses to the ground. And he’s not the only one, other banking staff crash to the floor. With chaos ensuing around her, Mauthis and Monza lock eyes briefly before he breathes his last. Shivers drags Monza away through the milling pandemonium back to the crumbling safe-house.
Monza confronts Morveer for this wholesale slaughter, partly for murder of innocent people, but also to the loss of her control. Morveer admits to poisoning every ledger in the bank1 and blithely passes off her hypocritical misgivings, especially from someone with her infamous reputations. Monza warns him never to test her. As Morveer peevishly stalks off, Shivers announces that he’s done with her. However, Monza deftly twists him around her finger again, convincing him he can steer her on the righteous path.

- Morveer is clearly a shithead and a sociopath with no issue with collateral damage, but you have to admit, he is excellent at killing people.
